This podcast is hosted by Purdue University Global Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization Student Advisor, Dr. Martin McDermott and interviews the CEO of Fast Signs, an international company with locations in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Brazil, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Australia. Fast Signs is a company that has been in business for over 25 years and was started by two friends in 1985 at the brink of the new technology of using vinyl to make different types of signs. Fast Signs has been rated in the 2012 Entrepreneur Magazine at number one for 2 years in the category of 500 Best in the Sign and Graphics category. CEO Catherine Monson, who is also a Certified Franchisee Expert (CFE), was recruited to Fast Signs in 2009 and has a total of over 32 years in franchising management. Monson started her career in 1980 with Sir Speedy Printing Center, where she helped them grow to over 800 stores and worked in all areas of the business. From there she went on to buy a franchise company in Europe that she ran for 2.5 years before buying a competitor where she became the president for 9 years. Monson is a very big believer in franchising as she feels that it is a great way for individuals to obtain their dreams of owning a business for themselves; they won’t be by themselves as they have the backing of a brand, training, and the systems and procedures already in place to help them succeed.
